West Hartford 9, Bristol 3 – In a game much closer than the final score indicated, with two evenly matched teams, West Hartford was able to get by Bristol 9–3.
In the top of the 1st, West Hartford jumped out to a 2-0 lead. With 1 out Allison Czapla tripled. With 2 outs Mindi McLaughlin walked and 2 runs scored on Kim Chamberlain’s single. In the bottom half of the inning Bristol received a 2 out double by Steph Johnson but Kim Chamberlain got out of the jam with a fly to center field.
In the 2nd inning, West Hartford added a run to take a 3–0 lead. Kalli Mack and Julie Kindl led off the inning with consecutive singles. After 2 fielder’s choices, Allison Czapla drove in a run with a two out single. Nicole Marcelynas avoided further damage by getting a pop up to the pitcher for the 3rd out. In the bottom half of the inning, Bristol went down 1-2-3.
In the 3rd inning, West Hartford got consecutive 2 out singles by Jackie Mendola and Kalli Mack. However, Nicole Marcelynas again close the door by getting a pop up to the pitcher. Bristol could only muster a 2 out walk in their half of the inning.
In the 4th inning West Hartford built their lead to 5–0. Gail Aldridge led off the inning with a triple. After 1 out, Allison Czapla’s single plated a run. With 2 outs, Mindi McLaughlin drove in the 2nd run of the inning with a single. In the bottom half of the inning, Bristol crept within 5–3. Christina Berry walked, Nicole Marcelynas drove her in with a triple. Steph Johnson drove Nicole in with a single. Still with no outs, Rachel Denny drove in Bristol’s 3rd run with a double. Kim Chamberlain avoided further damage by getting a ground out and 2 fly balls to the outfield.
In the 5th inning Kalli Mack led off the inning with a single. However, Nicole shut the door with a strike out, ground out, and a fly out. In the bottom of the inning Bristol could only manage 3 ground out sandwiched around a 1 out walk keeping the score at West Hartford 5, Bristol 3.
In the 6th inning, Allison Czapla led off with a single, her 4th hit of the day. But Nicole remained strong, ending the inning with a pop up and 2 fly outs. In the bottom half of the inning, Bristol loaded the bases with one out with a single by Nicole Marcelynas, a walk, and another single by Rachel Denny. However, Kim got out of the jam by getting a ground out force at home and a fly to center.
In the 7th inning, still nursing a 2 run lead, West Hartford broke the game open after the 1st two batters were retired. Julie Kindl and Gail Aldridge singled. A single by Caitlin McGaughey plated a run. Allison Czapla’s double drove in 2 more runs. Kelly Cocco drove in Allison for West Hartford’s 9th run of the game. Nicole ended the inning by getting a fly out to left field. Kim finished her complete game by getting Bristol on a fly to center and 2 pop ups.
For West Hartford Kim Chamberlain pitched a complete game 6 hitter while walking 4. Allison Czapla had a triple and a double while going 5 for 5. Kalli Mack went 3 for 4 and Julie Kindl and Gail Aldridge both went 2 for 4. Caitlyn McGaughey and Allison Czapla were outstanding in the field at SS and 1B respectively. For Bristol, Nicole Marcelynas, Steph Johnson, and Rachel Denny each had 2 hits. Nicole Marcelynas, although giving up 9 runs, continually battled and only gave up 1 walk in her complete game effort. Sam Canning was outstanding at SS for Bristol.
Enfield 6, Somers 0 – Enfield defeated Somers in their first match-up 6 to 0. Jumping out to an early lead scoring 3 runs in the first inning and another 3 in the fourth inning. Danielle Pelletier and Ashley Kaufman each had 2 hits a piece. Mary Gordon pitched a complete game throwing a 2-hitter and striking out 11 at the plate. She also had 1 hit. Nicole Delano did a great job defensively making some key plays in the field.
Kacey Oswell and Alicia Lambert pitched well for Somers, while Mindy Oswell had a strong game at 3rd base. Somers 2 hits came from Karyn Deptola and Steph Herbert.
Enfield 2, Somers 0 – Both teams battled back and forth leaving the score at 0-0 till Enfield scored 2 runs in the 6th inning. Runs were scored by Amanda Farnan and Jessica Meunier, each having 1 hit. Amanda also pitched a full 7 innings striking out 6. Betsy Harvey and Lauren Person both had great plays in the field.
Mindy Oswell and Karyn Deptola each had 2 hits, while Kara Murphy added 1 hit for Somers. Alicia Lambert led the team from the circle striking out 3. Defensively, Kacey Oswell, Katie Trask, and Crista Maggio all played well.
Simsbury 3, South Windsor 1

Canton 3, Suffield 0 – This game was a battle of the pitchers. Danielle (Diego) Leone for Canton versus Lauren Mercik for Suffield. We were scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Lauren Alibozek got on base with a single, then Nicole Batan got on with a bunt and Jillian Ortega brought them in with a 2 RBI double. Lindsey Johnson followed up with a double bringing in Jillian. Diego pitched a no hitter with 7 strike outs and Lauren had 6 strike outs.
Canton 9, Suffield 2 – In Game 2 Angie Moskwa pitched the entire game for Suffield while Canton split the pitching duties with Lindsay Erickson pitching the first 4 innings, Lauren Alibozek pitching inning 5 and Danielle (Diego) Leone came in to closing pitching innings 6 & 7.
Canton started with a 1,2,3 inning for Suffield then came back and got 2 runs on a triple from Jillian Ortega bringing in Nicole Batan and a single by Diego bringing in Jillian. Inning 2 Suffield walked in their first run and Canton answered back with another run when Sarah Lippincott hit a double and Loren Rozanski brought her in on an error. Inning 3 was scoreless for both teams. Inning 4 Suffield’s Sam Cieri hit a triple and Barb brought her in with a sacrifice fly out to right field. Suffield downed Canton 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 4th. Inning 5 was scoreless for Suffield and Canton scored another run when Loren Rozanski brought in Nikki Penn. The sixth inning Diego came in to pitch and it was another 1,2,3 inning. The bottom of the 6th Canton opened it up scoring 5 runs off of singles from Lauren Alibozek, Michele Niejadlik, Jillian Ortega and Danielle Leone. Suffield was unable to score in the top of the seventh stranding a runner on 1st base. Canton’s Danielle Leone and Nikki Penn were 2-3 with 2 singles and Jillian Ortega was 2-3 with a triple, single and 3 RBI’s for the game. Suffield’s short and third base played excellent defense.
