Suffield 3, Vernon 1 – Suffield Pink defeated Vernon 3 to 1. All three Suffield runs were scored in the top of the third. Scoring for Pink were Julie Muscarella, Sam Cieri and Angie Moskwa. Muscarella led the attack with a triple, followed by a single by Cieri and a double by Moskwa. Moskwa was driven in by a timely single by Jen Silva who went 2 for three at the plate. Pitching duties were handle by Angie Moskwa and Lauren Mercik.
Vernon’s run was scored by Shauna Sullivan in the bottom of the 6th who went 2 for three at the plate. Morgan McPartland singled to drive in Sullivan and pitched all seven innings for Vernon.
West Hartford 7, Suffield 6 – In a battle of the league’s two remaining undefeated teams, West Hartford edged Suffield in extra innings 7 – 6.
West Hartford went down in order in the top of the first. Suffield took the lead with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning as Sarah Emery walked and scored on Julie Muscarella’s home run. After 2 outs, Suffield was attempting to add more runs. They loaded the bases but Kim Chamberlain stopped any further damage by getting a ground out.
West Hartford took the lead in the top of the 2. After 2 were out they scored 4 runs on a walk, hits by Kim Chamberlain and Jen Bossi, 2 errors, and the final hit of the inning by Tori Savino. Suffield went down 1, 2, 3 in the bottom half of the inning.
West Hartford added another run in the top of the 3 to take a 5 – 1 lead. With one out, Mini McLaughlin singled and Carlee MacDonald walked. After a strikeout, Kim Chamberlain drove in the run with a 2 out double. Suffield went scoreless in the bottom of the third although Angie Moskwa and Alex Siskos both singled.
West Hartford went down in order in the top of the 4Suffield responded with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning to even the score at 5 apiece. Barb Kaplan had a triple, followed by an error and a home run by Sarah Emery. Julie Muscarella followed with a triple but was left stranded.
West Hartford regained the lead 6 -5 in the top of the 5. Mindi McLaughlin singled and scored on Carlee MacDonald’s double. Suffield went down in order in their half of the inning.
The 6th inning was scoreless as West Hartford and Suffield went down in order.
West Hartford was again scoreless in the top of the 7th. However, with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th, Suffield’s Sarah Emery tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Julie Muscarella to tie the game. Sam Cieri doubled, but was stranded at 2nd, leaving the score tied, and forcing extra innings.
West Hartford took the final lead in the top of the 8th. Caitlin McGaughey singled and scored on a 1 out double by Mindi McLaughlin. Suffield could not respond in their half of the inning only getting a runner to 1st on a walk with 2 outs.
Canton 8, Bristol 2 – Katie Donovan pitched well in the circle for Canton striking out 1 and allowing only 3 hits. Britt S. pitched for Bristol striking out 4. Had there been a fence at this field several of the hits in this game would have been over it! Bristol’s Kelly had a triple and scored one of their two runs. Canton’s Katy Van Deveire was 2-3 with a triple, double, 2 RBI’s and scored twice. Michele Niejadlik, Jillian Ortega and Sara Lippincott also each had triples and Monique Gauthier and Loren Rozanski each had a double. In the first inning both teams had quite a scare when a Canton player slid into third base being played by Christina Wolf.
Canton 7, Bristol 0 – Danielle (Diego) Leone pitched game 2 with 9 strike outs and Nicole pitched game 2 for Bristol with 4 strike outs. Canton’s Lindsey Johnson was 2-3 with a triple, double, 1 RBI and scored once, Jillian Ortega was 2-3 with 2 singles and scored 2 of our runs. Bristol played well considering they only had 8 players. Their 2 outfielders Steph K and Gretchen covered a lot of ground in the outfield.
Simsbury 7, Enfield 2
Enfield 4, Simsbury 1 – Enfield got an early lead in the first inning scoring 4 runs. Once again, Betsy Harvey proved to be a great hitter with a stand-up triple and 1 run scored. Danielle Pelleiter went 2 for 2 at the plate and scored 1 run. Karen Costes and Lindsey Deford also scored for Enfield. Defensively, Mary Gordon took control of the game from the circle letting up only 1 run, striking out 11 and making key plays in the field.
Simsbury put up a good fight. Defensively pitcher Christine Akcer pitched the first half of the first inning and had 1 strikeout. From the plate she got walked 3 times. Molly Rathbun pitched the second half of the first inning as well as the next 5 innings. She came to the circle ready to play striking out 13 and had 1 hit. Simsbury also had key hits from Jen, Amanda and Mandy.
Somers 12, South Windsor 3 – Kacey Oswell pitched a complete game (5 innings) for the 12-3 win over SW, she also went 2-3 at the plate. Mindy Oswell was solid behind the plate throwing out a base stealer. Karyn Duptula was 3-3. Christine Chamberland drove in 3 runs. Colleen had 2 hits for SW and scored. Katie & Jacquie also scored.
Somers 9, South Windsor 7 – Combined pitching of Alicia Lambert & Kacey Oswell resulted in a 9-7 win over SW. Alicia struck out 3, allowed 5 hits & 6 runs in 5 innings. Kacey gave up 1 hit & 1 run, she also went 4-4 at the plate. Karyn Duptula continued her awsome offense going 4-4 including a double and scoring twice. Jacquie O’Brien pitched for SW, striking out 3. She also had a nice double & scored.
